From 6 weeks to 6 months there will be less sleeping and more interaction. Although no longer as flexible, and not all that placid all the time, you will get beautiful shots of that little personality emerging. Babies are not able to sit by themselves, so we can photograph your baby lying on his/her tummy or back, as well as in mommy and daddy’s arms.
If baby is between 1 and 3 months old, schedule the photo shoot around sleeping and eating time. Remember to also keep daddy’s schedule in mind, as we would love for him to be included! I also take appointments over weekends, so there are plenty of opportunities to plan the best photo shoot that suits your unique family.
If you are planning a session between 4 and 6 months, it’s a good idea to wait until your baby can sit alone with confidence. We don’t want them falling over and getting a fright!

We like to keep things fun and lighthearted and bring out the best in all our little clients. We make use of toys (and crazy antics) to interact with children of all ages so we can get the cutest and most amazing family photographs.
The time of day is critical with the toddlers. Try to schedule your shoot in the morning, shortly after a morning nap. Try not to have your baby sleep in the car on the way to us or the venue as this will most likely leave him or her grumpy and not rested enough. As long as your toddler is well-fed and rested we are more likely to get good pictures. Bring along some drinks, snacks and one or two favourite toys. Also, try to wake your toddler up from his or her nap about 20 minutes before the photo shoot.
Again, no more than 2 to 3 outfits please, as babies can turn into little divas when fiddled with too much. Try to avoid outfits with a very prominent pattern, label or patch somewhere as we want the star of the picture to be the baby not the clothes. Hats and beanies are a must (we have lots of those), and don’t worry too much about shoes.
Toddlers and Kids
The same guidelines for older babies apply but, of course at this age, if it managed to stay clean until the photo shoot, we’ve hit the jackpot! I also have some outfits and accessories to make your little superstar shine. For more styling ideas, take a look at this board on Pinterest.
For those planning family portraits, it’s good to coordinate the wardrobe a little. We love light colours, neatrals, greys and pastels.
More formal portraits can also be done in the Sunday best. For parents with small babies a good suggestion would be to have an extra shirt handy, as those badly timed accidents do happen with little ones.
