How to choose newborn outfits for photos (without spending hours shopping)

The idea of a newborn photoshoot is exciting until you realize it comes with a side order of stress. Moms often tell me their biggest worry is: “What on earth are we going to wear?” Between baby brain, endless feeding sessions, and trying to find time to shower, the thought of outfit shopping can feel impossible. That’s exactly why I’ve set things up so you don’t have to.

The good news about baby outfits
Let’s get this part out of the way first. You don’t need to buy or pack a single thing for your baby. I provide all the wraps, props, and textures that work beautifully in photos. They’re soft, safe, neutral, and timeless, which means your little one looks perfect without you having to spend a cent or dig through online shops at 2 am.

What about mom?
This is the part most moms stress over. You want to look put-together but also comfortable, and nothing in your current wardrobe seems to fit quite right. I get it. That’s why I’ve built a studio wardrobe designed with you in mind. My collection includes flowy dresses, neutral pieces, and flattering styles that work with postpartum bodies. Everything photographs beautifully, so you’ll never have to worry that your outfit will date badly or distract from the focus on your family.

Why it works
When you walk into my studio in Centurion, I’ll guide you through the options that match your style and the look you want. I also send out prep guides ahead of time so you know exactly what to expect and don’t waste energy stressing over choices. Think of it as personal styling for your shoot-without the overwhelm or shopping trips.

Dad and siblings too
For dads and older kids, simple works best. I’ll give you easy tips for colors and textures that complement the look of the session. No need for fancy shopping trips-usually what’s already in your cupboard works perfectly once you know what to bring.

Take the stress off your plate
Your newborn shoot should feel calm, simple, and memorable. With baby wraps and props provided and a wardrobe ready for you, all you have to do is show up. I’ll take care of the details so you can focus on enjoying the moment.

When is the best time for maternity photos?

September 20, 2025 by Jackie

When is the best time for maternity photos? (South Africa edition)

Timing your maternity shoot matters more than most people realize. It’s not just about how big your bump looks, it’s also about how comfortable you feel. The right window makes the whole experience smoother, and gives you photos where you feel like yourself instead of someone who just waddled a marathon.

The sweet spot
The most popular time is between 28 and 34 weeks. By then your bump has a beautiful round shape, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to move around, sit, and stand without feeling like the shoot is an Olympic event.

Factors to consider
Every pregnancy is different. If you’re expecting multiples, your bump will show earlier, so you may want to book sooner. With high risk pregnancies, it’s safer to plan a bit earlier so you’re not stressing about timing later on. And some moms just “pop” earlier, which means 24 weeks could already give you that perfect curve.

Seasonal perks
South Africa has the best of everything when it comes to seasons. Spring means florals and fresh light. Autumn gives you rich tones and golden evenings. Winter can surprise you with cozy knits and layered looks that photograph beautifully. Summer is, well, summer—long evenings, glowing sunsets, and the option of both indoor and outdoor shoots.

What if you leave it too late
Don’t panic if you suddenly realize you’re 37 weeks and haven’t booked yet. I’ve photographed plenty of moms right up to their due date. Sure, it takes a little more care with comfort and posing, but we can absolutely still make it work.

I keep limited spots open each month to make sure my moms can book in their perfect window. Check availability early so we can plan a time that feels right for you.

How to prepare for a family photoshoot

How to prepare your toddler (and your partner) for a family photoshoot

Whenever moms book a family shoot, i usually hear the same two worries. one, “My toddler is going to lose the plot.” and two, “My husband will only do this under protest.” Met me put your mind at ease right now. Moth of these are completely normal, and neither of them is going to ruin your photos.

Toddlers don’t ruin photos
Toddlers aren’t built for standing still and smiling on cue. That’s actually a good thing. The running, the jumping, the random cuddles and tantrums are what make your photos feel real and alive. The goal isn’t a perfect row of forced grins, it’s the little quirks that remind you who your child really was at this age.

My tricks for wild toddlers
I’ve been doing this long enough to know toddlers respond best when the shoot feels like playtime. We move, we explore, we turn the session into a game. Distractions are my secret weapon, and I have plenty up my sleeve. You don’t have to stress about controlling your child. I’ll guide the flow so their energy works for the photos, not against them.

Getting dads on board
Most dads arrive thinking this is going to be long, complicated, and slightly torturous. It isn’t. I keep it quick, simple, and painless. I’ll give him direction so he never feels awkward or unsure, and we’ll get what we need before he starts checking his watch. By the end, even the most reluctant dads admit it was easier than they expected.

How you can prepare
You don’t need to nag anyone into compliance. Timing matters, so let’s pick a slot when your toddler isn’t already overtired or hungry. You will receive prep guide from me with regards to timing, how to prep your young kids and how best to handle the stress of getting ready on the day.

Pack a snack or two, because food is magic when attention starts to fade. And yes, a little light bribery works wonders. The promise of ice cream has saved many a session.

This is my speciality. I’ve had thousands of energetic kids and countless dads in front of my camera. You don’t need to manage it all. I’ll take care of the chaos, and you’ll walk away with family photos that feel natural, fun, and worth the effort.

10 Reasons you’ll never regret doing a maternity shoot

April 25, 2025 by Jackie

10 Reasons You’ll Never Regret Doing a Maternity Shoot

Every expecting mother has felt it—the dizzying awareness that this moment, this very fleeting season, will never come again. Pregnancy is a brief yet monumental chapter in your life, and while you’re in it, it might feel endless. But ask any mother and she’ll tell you it goes by in a heartbeat. This is precisely why investing in a maternity shoot is one of those decisions you’ll never, ever regret.

Here are 10 heartfelt reasons why capturing this incredible time is something you won’t want to miss:

1. Pregnancy is Over Before You Know It

One day you’re counting down the weeks, and the next, you’re holding your newborn. The months leading up to meeting your baby move surprisingly fast—especially once they’re over. Trust me, you’ll blink and it’ll be behind you. Having maternity portraits ensures you hold onto these fleeting moments forever.

2. You’ll Never Be This Young Again

With each passing year, you’ll cherish reminders of your youth more. Right now, you’re younger than you’ll ever be again. A maternity shoot captures you exactly as you are in this beautiful, transient moment—young, strong, and embarking on an extraordinary journey. Your future self will thank you.

3. Your Kids Will Cherish These Photos Someday

One day, your child will ask questions about your pregnancy. What better gift than photographs that allow them to see exactly how loved and anticipated they were? Imagine your grown child holding these images, feeling connected to you, long before they were even born.

4. It’s Not About Perfection; It’s About Connection

You don’t have to feel perfect or glamorous for a maternity shoot—this isn’t about magazine covers or Instagram filters. It’s about capturing authentic emotions, real connections, and the profound bond forming between you and your unborn child. Imperfections fade; connections deepen.

5. You Can’t Get This Moment Back

No matter how many children you have, each pregnancy is entirely unique. Missing out on photographing one pregnancy can lead to regret later. You might plan to “do it next time,” but life has a way of changing plans. Don’t risk regret over something you only have one chance at capturing.

6. Budget Shouldn’t Stand in the Way of Memories

It’s understandable to be mindful of your budget, especially in uncertain economic times. But some things simply transcend money—and the memories of your pregnancy are one of them. Think of maternity photography not as an expense, but as an investment in memories that will only appreciate in value as time passes.

7. Embrace the Journey, Not Just the Destination

Motherhood isn’t just about the moment you hold your baby. It starts long before—in those quiet months of anticipation, planning, dreaming, and wondering who your child will become. A maternity shoot honors this journey, making sure you remember not just the birth, but the incredible path leading to it.

8. You’ll Feel Beautiful (Yes, Really!)

It’s common to feel uncertain or self-conscious during pregnancy. But the right photographer will make you feel gorgeous exactly as you are. When you look back at your maternity photos, you’ll remember how radiant, empowered, and beautiful you truly felt—even if you didn’t realize it at the time.

9. Time Changes Everything

Time moves quietly yet powerfully. It alters our memories, shapes our perspectives, and softens our edges. Photos, however, capture the raw, unfiltered truth of the moment. Years from now, maternity images become powerful anchors to the past, grounding you in memories that time inevitably fades.

10. Creating a Legacy for Each Child

Every child deserves to know their story began with excitement, love, and anticipation. Whether you have one child or several, documenting each pregnancy creates a precious legacy uniquely theirs. Each photo session tells your child: “You mattered from the very start. You were loved deeply before we even met.”

Ultimately, a maternity photoshoot isn’t just another “nice-to-have” luxury. It’s an emotional necessity, preserving a stage of life that’s impossible to recreate later. No mother has ever regretted capturing these irreplaceable moments; instead, the regret often comes from missing out.

You won’t ever be this exact version of yourself again—young, pregnant, hopeful, and on the threshold of meeting your baby. Don’t let budget, uncertainty, or doubt rob you of something that will become priceless in hindsight. These aren’t simply photographs—they’re emotional heirlooms, marking the moment you stepped bravely into motherhood.

One day you’ll sit down with your grown child, flipping through these photos. You’ll trace your fingers over the images, remembering vividly how it felt to carry them inside you. You’ll recall how swiftly those months went by and how grateful you are that you chose to capture that incredible journey.

So, take the chance. Say yes to creating these memories, because this exact moment—this exact you—will never exist again. Your future self and your future children will be endlessly thankful that you did.

Most common newborn photoshoot questions

April 11, 2025 by Jackie

Welcoming a newborn into the family is one of the most precious moments in life. A newborn photoshoot is the perfect way to capture that fleeting, magical time when your little one is still so tiny and full of wonder. At adore photography’, we’re here to make this experience easy and enjoyable, ensuring that both you and your baby feel comfortable every step of the way. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about newborn photoshoots, all while staying true to our ethos of simplicity, authenticity, and ease.

1. When is the best time for a newborn photoshoot?

The ideal time for a newborn photoshoot is within the first 7 to 14 days after birth. This is when your baby is still super sleepy and flexible, which allows us to capture those adorable curled-up poses. If you miss this window, don’t worry! We can still create beautiful, timeless images at any age. Just reach out, and we’ll help you plan the best time for your shoot.

2. What should we bring to the newborn photoshoot?

For the most part, we’ve got everything covered. We’ll provide all the props, blankets, and wraps for your newborn session. However, we recommend bringing a few essentials—like diapers, wipes, and a bottle (if you’re bottle-feeding). If you’d like your baby to be photographed in a special outfit or if you have a meaningful item you’d like included, feel free to bring that along. We’ll incorporate whatever you feel is important to you.

3. What should we wear for our newborn photoshoot?

We keep things simple and relaxed. For parents, we recommend neutral colours—think whites, creams, or soft pastels that complement your baby’s natural features without overshadowing them. We’ll guide you on what works best for the shoot so that you’re comfortable and look your best. No need to stress over matching outfits or complicated styles; we focus on natural, effortless beauty.

4. Can we include older siblings in the newborn photoshoot?

Absolutely! If you have older children, we encourage them to join in. Including them in the shoot is a great way to capture the bond between siblings. We’ll work with your older child to ensure they feel relaxed and comfortable, and we’ll make sure everyone has fun while getting those sweet family moments. Don’t worry about perfection; we love capturing natural, loving interactions between siblings.

5. Where do newborn photoshoots take place?

Newborn photoshoots can take place in the comfort of your home or in our cozy studio. If you prefer the convenience and comfort of your own space, we’ll bring everything we need and set up wherever you feel most at ease. Our studio offers a calm, quiet environment, and we can tailor the session to your preferences. Either way, we ensure the setting is relaxed and stress-free.

6. How long will the newborn photoshoot take?

Newborn sessions typically last between 1 to 3 hours. This longer session time allows for plenty of breaks to feed, change, or soothe your baby as needed. We know babies can be unpredictable, so we take our time to ensure everyone is comfortable and relaxed throughout the process. The last thing we want is for you or your little one to feel rushed.

7. What if my baby won’t sleep during the photoshoot?

No worries! While we aim to capture those peaceful, sleepy poses, we understand that every baby is different. Some may prefer to stay awake, and that’s perfectly fine. We’ll adapt our session to whatever your baby needs—whether it’s feeding, snuggling, or just a bit of time to settle. We’ll take it slow and follow your baby’s cues, ensuring the experience is as calm and stress-free as possible.

8. How should we prepare for the newborn photoshoot?

Preparation is simple. We recommend feeding your baby right before the shoot so they’re calm and content when we start. Keep your baby in a loose diaper to avoid any marks on their skin, and make sure the room is warm, as babies tend to feel more comfortable in a warm environment. We’ll provide you with all the details you need ahead of time, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

9. When will we receive our edited newborn photos?

After your session, we take the time to carefully edit your photos to bring out the best in each one. You can expect your final gallery within 2 to 3 weeks. We want to ensure every image reflects the natural beauty and innocence of your newborn, and we’ll keep you updated on the progress. Once your gallery is ready, you’ll be able to view, download, and share your photos easily.

10. How much does a newborn photoshoot cost?

We offer a variety of packages to suit different needs and budgets. Our pricing is transparent and includes everything you need for your session—no hidden fees or surprise costs. Whether you’re looking for a full session with multiple setups or a simple, intimate shoot with just your newborn, we’ll work with you to find the perfect package that fits your vision and budget.

In Conclusion

Newborn photoshoots are all about capturing those fleeting moments that you’ll treasure forever. At adore photography’, we take a simple, relaxed approach to ensure that your experience is as stress-free as possible. Where’s Mom? The sad reality of moms behind the lens (and never in front of it)

April 5, 2025 by Jackie

Where’s Mom? The Sad Reality of Moms Behind the Lens (and Never in Front of It)

Ever flipped through your phone’s camera roll and noticed something seriously missing? No, it’s not more cute kid pictures (trust me, you’re stocked up for the next century). It’s you. Moms everywhere know this frustration—you’ve somehow become the invisible woman behind the lens, capturing every perfect moment, every candid giggle, every milestone. And yet, when your kids look back one day, they might legitimately wonder if you even existed back then.

It’s a bit heartbreaking when you think about it, right?

Let’s talk about how moms become ghosts in their own family photos, why that actually matters more than you think, and why maybe—just maybe—it’s time to finally get you back into the frame.

The Curse of Being the Family Photographer

If motherhood came with an official job description, somewhere near the bottom in fine print it would say: “Also required to become a professional-level photographer overnight, without training or compensation.” From the moment you brought your baby home, you probably became the default documenter. You’ve snapped hundreds—no, thousands—of photos of dad napping with the baby, dad playing in the garden, dad teaching your toddler how to ride their first scooter.

And then one day you realize that all you have of yourself are a few blurry selfies and some absolutely dreadful shots taken by dad, who always seems to capture you mid-sneeze or in pajamas at your least flattering angle. (Seriously, why are dads so uniquely terrible at taking decent pictures of us?)

It’s funny—until it isn’t. Because the reality is, you’re effectively being erased from your family’s visual history.

Why Moms Hesitate to Ask

Here’s another hard truth: even though you desperately want candid shots of yourself cuddling your toddler or reading bedtime stories, you don’t always want to ask your partner. Because, let’s face it, the second you do, the moment shifts. Suddenly you’re self-conscious, worrying about your hair or how you’re positioned. The magic of candid photography is precisely that nobody is aware it’s happening, capturing the soft, sweet, and honest moments that really define your family’s story.

And because asking someone else to take photos—especially when they’re, um, not exactly talented—is awkward, you just don’t. You stay hidden behind your phone, quietly wishing someone would see you, snap you, and save those moments forever.

What Your Kids Are Missing

This isn’t just about vanity. It’s not about needing more flattering images for your Instagram. It’s about your kids and their memories.

Decades of psychological research confirm what you’ve probably suspected: children gain a profound sense of identity, belonging, and self-worth when they see their parents loving them. And one of the simplest ways children feel this love is by seeing themselves with their parents in photos.

Your kids won’t care if your hair wasn’t washed that day. They won’t notice if your shirt had a stain. They’ll simply treasure seeing proof of you in their life—how you held them, comforted them, and laughed with them. They’ll want to know you existed in those moments, too.

Milestone Sessions Are Not Just for the Kids

Here’s where milestone photography comes into play. Milestone sessions aren’t just about babies rolling over or toddlers wobbling through their first steps. They’re also about documenting you, mom, exactly as you are at that stage of motherhood. Because let’s be real: motherhood changes you. It softens you, strengthens you, and shapes you in ways no other experience can.

When you step into a milestone session, you’re giving yourself the gift of existing visibly in your family’s history. You’re stepping out from behind the camera and saying, “Hey, I’m here too. I’m part of this beautiful chaos.”

And let’s just acknowledge something else: milestone sessions give you the rare chance to actually feel beautiful, too. You get wardrobe help, professional guidance on posing (no awkward dad angles here, promise), and the confidence that someone who understands motherhood is photographing you exactly as you want to be remembered.

The Magic of Candid, Intimate Moments

As your photographer, my job isn’t just to snap smiling, posed photos. My real work—the part I love most—is catching the intimate, subtle moments you never get to see yourself: how your child melts into you when you hold them, the soft gaze you give when you think no one’s looking, the way your kids cling to your leg or snuggle into your neck.

These are the images you’ll cherish most—not just because they’re beautiful (although, spoiler alert, they absolutely will be), but because they’re the moments that define motherhood. They’re the moments you’ve lived every day but never actually seen from the outside looking in.

And trust me, they’re breathtaking.

Prioritize Yourself (Yes, Really)

In a world where moms often come last—after laundry, snack-making, and endless rounds of school pick-ups—it’s radical but necessary to prioritize something for yourself. And this isn’t selfishness; it’s legacy-building. You deserve to exist in your family’s photographic history. Your children deserve to see proof of you loving them, nurturing them, and being present in their lives.

Budget concerns, scheduling conflicts, and even feeling self-conscious can hold you back. But here’s the blunt truth: five, ten, twenty years from now, none of that will matter. You won’t think about what you spent or how busy you were. You’ll only think, “Thank goodness I did this.”

Because the harshest reality is this: time moves on relentlessly. You’ll never be younger than you are now, your children will never be this small again, and these quiet moments of motherhood will slip away before you’ve fully savored them.

Don’t Let Yourself Disappear

You’re not just someone’s mom; you’re the heart of your family, the silent force behind everything beautiful happening in your household. But please, don’t let yourself be invisible in your family’s story. You’re not just allowed to exist—you deserve to be celebrated, seen, and lovingly remembered, too.

Let’s change the narrative. Put down the camera. Let someone else (someone who isn’t your partner fumbling with your phone’s camera settings) capture the candid beauty of motherhood.

Because when your kids one day look back at their childhood photos, they won’t just say, “Look how little we were.” They’ll say, “Look at mom. She was there, loving us every step of the way.”

And trust me, that’s worth stepping out from behind the lens.

How to photograph a newborn baby: A stress-free guide

April 1, 2025 by Jackie

Photographing a newborn baby can feel intimidating, especially if you’re worried about getting the perfect shot while keeping the baby comfortable. Whether you’re a parent capturing those first few weeks at home or a photographer looking to refine your skills, this guide will help you create beautiful, natural newborn photos without the stress.

1. Timing Is Everything

The best time to photograph a newborn is within the first 7–14 days after birth. During this window, babies are sleepier and easier to settle into natural, curled-up positions. After two weeks, they become more alert and active, which can make posing trickier (but also leads to more expressive shots!).

2. Choose the Right Light

Natural light is your best friend when photographing newborns. Position the baby near a large window with soft, indirect light to create a warm, flattering glow. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, as it can create strong shadows and make the baby uncomfortable.

Best times for soft, natural light:

  • Morning (9 AM – 12 PM) – gentle light, babies usually have a nice nap mid-morning

3. Keep the Room Warm and Cozy

Newborns are happiest when they’re warm. If you’re doing a session at home, set the room temperature to around 24–26°C to keep them comfortable, especially if they’ll be swaddled or undressed for the photos.

4. Go for Natural, Baby-Led Posing

Forget stiff, over-posed setups. Instead, let the baby settle into natural, relaxed positions. Some simple, beautiful poses include:

  • Tummy time pose – Baby resting on their belly with hands tucked under their chin.
  • Side-lying pose – A natural, curled-up position that mimics the womb.
  • Parent’s arms – Capturing baby snuggled into a parent’s embrace.

Always follow the baby’s lead. If they seem unsettled in a position, adjust or move on to another shot.

5. Use Soft, Neutral Colors

For a timeless and natural look, stick to a neutral color palette—creams, whites, soft grays, and earth tones. These tones keep the focus on the baby and create a classic, elegant feel. Avoid loud patterns or bright colors, as they can distract from the baby’s delicate features.

6. Focus on the Details

Some of the most heart-melting images come from capturing tiny details, such as:

  • Little fingers and toes
  • Soft wisps of hair
  • Button nose and pouty lips
  • Baby’s hand wrapped around a parent’s finger

Zooming in on these small moments adds depth to your newborn gallery and helps tell a complete story.

7. Keep the Session Calm and Unrushed

Newborn photography requires patience. Plan for breaks—babies might need to feed, be changed, or simply be soothed between shots. The calmer the environment, the easier it will be to capture natural, relaxed images.

8. Use Safe, Gentle Editing

When editing newborn photos, keep it natural. Avoid over-smoothing the skin or making colors too saturated. Simple adjustments like:

  • Softening the shadows
  • Removing minor blemishes or redness
  • Enhancing the natural warmth of the image

…can make a big difference while keeping the photos authentic.

9. Involve Parents and Siblings

Some of the most meaningful newborn photos include family members. Capture:

  • A mother cradling her newborn close
  • A father’s hands holding tiny feet
  • Siblings peeking curiously at their new baby brother or sister

These moments bring out real emotions and make the images even more special.

Final Thoughts

Newborn photography isn’t about achieving a “perfect” shot—it’s about preserving real, fleeting moments. Whether you’re capturing your own baby or photographing clients, the key is to create a relaxed, comfortable environment where natural moments unfold. With the right light, soft tones, and a little patience, you’ll end up with a beautiful set of images that truly reflect the magic of those first few weeks.

Who are the best family photographers near me

March 30, 2025 by Jackie

If you’ve ever typed “best family photographers near me” into Google, chances are you were hit with an overwhelming number of results. With so many options, how do you know who’s actually good, who fits your style, and who will make the whole process stress-free?

Let’s break it down and help you find the perfect photographer for your family.

What Makes a Great Family Photographer?

A great family photographer isn’t just someone with a nice camera. They’re someone who understands the chaos of family life, can roll with the punches (and toddler tantrums), and still deliver beautiful, authentic photos. Here’s what to look for:

  • Style: Do you love bright and airy photos, rich and moody tones, or something more documentary-style? Make sure their portfolio matches what you’re drawn to.
  • Experience with Kids: Posing a two-year-old is an art form. Some photographers excel at making kids feel comfortable, while others might expect them to sit still and smile (good luck with that!).
  • Stress-Free Experience: Do they help with outfit planning? Do they have a smooth booking process? The best photographers make your life easier, not harder.
  • Real Client Reviews: Look beyond the portfolio. Check reviews to see how past clients felt about the entire experience.

How to Choose the Right Photographer for Your Family

Every family is different, so the best photographer for one might not be the best for another. Here are a few things to consider when making your decision:

  • Do Their Photos Make You Feel Something? If you look at their portfolio and feel an emotional connection, that’s a great sign.
  • Do They Offer the Experience You Want? Some photographers specialize in lifestyle sessions at home, while others prefer golden-hour shoots in an open field. Make sure their approach aligns with your vision.
  • What’s Their Personality Like? You’ll be spending time with them, so you want someone who makes you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Final Thoughts

Finding the right family photographer doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By knowing what you’re looking for and narrowing down your options based on style, experience, and personality, you’ll be well on your way to getting photos you’ll love.

Cake smash photoshoots: Everything moms need to know

March 26, 2025 by Jackie

Your baby’s first birthday is a big deal—how did a whole year fly by so fast? If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate, a cake smash photoshoot is the perfect way to capture this milestone. It’s messy, hilarious, and gives you the cutest first birthday photos to cherish forever.

If you’re searching for a “cake smash photoshoot near me” in Gauteng, here’s everything you need to know about booking a session!

When to Book a Cake Smash Shoot

The best time to schedule a first birthday photography session is when your baby is 11 to 12 months old. This way, you get the adorable photos in time for their actual birthday party, and they’re still at the perfect stage for cute expressions and messy fun!

Pro tip: Book early! Cake smash sessions fill up quickly, especially around popular birthday months.

What to Bring (Hint: Not Much!)

One of the biggest perks of a cake smash session? I handle everything! You don’t need to stress about decorations or cakes—I take care of that with simple, timeless setups so you can just show up and enjoy the moment.

So, what should you bring?

  • The baby (obviously!)
  • A simple outfit (I’ll guide you on this)
  • A backup change of clothes for after the session
  • Wet wipes (trust me, you’ll need them!)

If you’re wondering, “What should I bring to a cake smash session?”—the answer is: not much! I provide the setup, props, and the perfect setting for messy fun.

What If My Baby Won’t Smash the Cake?

Not all babies dive in face-first—and that’s okay! Some babies are cautious, some are curious, and some need a little encouragement.

If your little one isn’t interested in smashing the cake, we get creative! We can:

  • Let them explore the cake with fingers before going full smash mode
  • Get mom or dad to assist and help break the ‘ice’
  • Capture their adorable reactions (whether it’s excitement, curiosity, or even a little side-eye)

No matter what, we’ll get beautiful, authentic photos that capture your baby’s personality.

Outfit Ideas for Cake Smash Sessions

Wondering what your baby should wear for their cake smash photoshoot near me? Keep it simple!

The best outfit choices are:

✔ Neutral, light colors – Whites, pastels, or soft tones work beautifully.
✔ Something comfy – Your baby should be able to move and play freely.
✔ Minimal accessories – Headbands, hats, or bow ties are cute but should be secure and comfy.

I’ll send you an outfit guide before the session, so you’ll know exactly what works best!
